Sav had been on US soil about 4 hours.
The poor dog was in shock, but isn't he lovely.
Where else do you see shape like THAT?

Martinique Kennels, and ran into Magnus Hagstedt who was there for dinner too.
They mentioned how Phoebe Booth and Iva Kimmelman had tried to buy their Sav. Magnus explained to Peter More and Peter Griffiths, his owners, who Phoebe and I were, and what a marvelous opportunity it would be for their dog, them, and the breed in the US.

So, I got an email from them, saying they wanted to talk to me.

They called at 6am US time the next morning, and offered to lease him to me for one year! No charge, except the expense of getting him to the states, and returning him at the end of the term. They wanted no contract, my recommendation from Magnus and Ian and Terry (Martinique) was enough for them.

When he came off the plane, both Eva and I were, shall I say, "dazzled"....I remember lots of silence as we both, "took him in".

He was more glorious than I had remembered! He was also, very sad, bewildered and confused and kept pointing his lovely self, and looking South (toward Australia) as we tried to walk him. He seemed to like me right away, and when I came into the room, he jumped off the bed, and rubbed his face on me. He did this to me on a regular basis, during his stay. I guess to put his scent on me, so I wouldn't disappear.

I have never told the Peters, but that night he escaped through a dog door we thought was locked, and jumped over the fence at Rachel and Henry's house, and could have easily run away into the
