I have only been once in USA. I have mostly seen these dogs from videos and photos.
I think in USA Whippets have elegant type and style that I like. They have usually beautiful necks, heads and under jaws, sometimes is seen to narrow skulls and big ears, but mostly I like them. Good side gait and good pigmentation with dark eyes is also thing I like. Nina was blue pigmented as well as Siv is, they both have dark eyes for their color, but I don’t like those very light eyes that are sometimes seen with dilute colors.
I have feeling that dogs in America have nice outgoing and happy temperaments and what I have known them they have been very energize. To get new blood has also been one reason to use US lines.
Size has been a little problem while our standard requires
dogs to be 47-51 cm and bitches 44-47 cm, in US and Canada size is bigger, but actually dogs imported from USA to Scandinavia has been mostly of a good size..
I have also had some big males 53-55 cm and it’s really difficult to show the big males here. There are some really big bitches as well, but showing them isn’t that big problem, judges don’t seem care about that as much. I like smaller size whippets, bitches I hope to be under 47 cm and males around 50-53cm.
9. Are there whippets that you feel are a perfect representative of the breed?
If so, Who? Is there anything you would change?
There are many beautiful whippets around the world. My all time favorite male is famous Ch Play a While at Peperone in every aspect a special dog, he was stunning male that had most beautiful head and neck. He also was very nice dog in temperament and great producer, I have liked his offspring also a lot. Photos don’t do justice to him, his beauty and charisma can’t be seen properly from photos …..
In photos and videos I have liked many US whippets one of my favorites is Plumcreeck Come Fly with Me and his offspring.
There is always something to change, but I think these dogs are very good examples of a beautiful Whippets.
10. Do you feel the Scandinavian whippets are very different from the Whippets from other countries? What do you feel are their strengths and what would you improve?
I think we have quite good whippets here, even I think sometimes it’s really difficult to find good males. Type varies a lot; we have had lots of imports from different countries. Imports have improved your
