This is amateur oval track racing. The lure can be drag or continuous loop.  When available the rail lure may be used.  The distances can be from 220 to 440 yards.  Four programs are run on the shorter distances.  Usually the 330 to 440 are three programs.  Dogs are started in boxes.  Races are usually four dog races but can be five dog races.  Races are drawn according to the dog’s grade.  All dogs wear blankets and muzzles.  Line and foul judges are spaced down the track.  All results get handed in to the race secretary.  Whippets must have 15 starters to have an official meet.

ORC - Oval Race Champion - 15 ORC points
SORC - Supreme Oval Race Champion - addition 50 points (dogs) - 30 points (bitches)
OTR - Oval Track Racer - 25 score points
OTRM - Oval Track Racer of Merit - 100 score points
Both the OTR and OTRM are not championships. They are awards for participation and clean running.

Once a year there is a National Race Meet - Entries are usually the top 100 whippets.
These meets rotate around the US and Canada.
