never any trouble. A complete English gentleman from start to finish. I was heartbroken to think I had to return this dog. They said they understood, but the best they could do was let me keep him another 6 months (can you believe that!) but then he had to come home. I agreed, and we set the date of his return.
It was incredibly difficult to send Sav back. I have been asked what it was like, and all I can say is it was agony. I just got so attached to him. He was so easy to love. I know Nenne Runsten went through this when she had to return Ch. Statuesque Personalized to Australia many years before, after a similar lease agreement.

When I said good bye at the airport in Boston, he had a look of peace and understanding on his face, in my state of histaria. It was like he understood my love for him and my heartbreak at having to say goodbye, and in his own way, tried to let me know it was okay. Either that, or he was relieved to be going home! I cried and cried all the way back home.
I moped around for several days, but then I focused on all he did for so many, and my own breeding program. Then I looked into the faces of all his very successful get, that remain in my home, all I could really feel is incredibly lucky and fortunate that he was owned by two such forward thinking, incredibly generous people. And then there is Magnus of course. If not for our friendship, and his recommendation, this would never have happened.
Until I met the Peters, I would never have done what they did for me. Now I look at it differently, of course.
He was bred 10 times, during his stay, twice to my own bitch, Dual Ch. M I Velvet Hammer, FCH, ROM. I don't do repeats, but when Plume was born, and my friend Magnus told me I could not send her to Sweden, that I must keep her for myself, I decided to get another for him so repeated a very successful combination.
Although not all of his litters have achieved the success that has been realized by Phoebe Booth, Karen Lee, Heather Dansareau, and myself, when he "nicked" with a bitch, it was magic.
Sav is top whippet sire for 2008. He already has three more for this year.
