2007 CWA National Events
August 31, September 1 and 2, 2007
The 2007 Continental Whippet Alliance National events were held at Arthur’s Acres, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, hosted by the Dairyland Whippet Club. The weather for the event was perfect with clear blue skies, temperatures in the 70’s to low 80’s complete with a pleasant breeze. There was major concern prior to the events due to the many days of heavy rains that drenched the grounds. Areas of standing water and soft ground (AKA mud) would have made parking difficult at best for the cars and vans. Motor homes and trailers would have risked getting stuck had not the rain stopped and the ground drying a bit. As it was there were still swampy areas to contend with. Another down side of the wet weather came in the form of mosquitoes. Their mass hatching coincided with the weekend activities. We all learned the mosquito “dance” jumping up and down and flailing our arms around to ward the creatures away.
This event could not have been carried out without the help of many people. A big thank you and a huge amount of our appreciation go to Janet Siehndel (food guru), Peggy Berg (food and all around helper), Jennifer Smith (t-shirts, merchandise and catalog), Patience Renzulli and Lisa Ochoa (raffle), Gail Wegner (fun match), Fred Luehrs and John Shebesta (box operators), Dean Wegner (head foul judge), Mary Huff and Connie Austin (foul judges), all those who line judged, timers Jeffrey Ollswang and Doug Arthur (grounds crew chief), Lorraine Klubertanz (food guru assistant), David and Gina Samuelson wherever we needed help they were there. Janet Siehndel and Judy Corbett were great on race set up, which went pretty smoothly considering it was the first time I have used this tag system. Thank you to all those who helped catch and take dogs to the box. Everyone was so great about pitching in to help. Also, thank you to all those who helped with clean up after Sunday’s events were over. You are the best!
A big thank you to all those who donated to the trophy fund and prize items. Our prizes were wonderful. Donations that did not get acknowledged in the catalog were from Carl and Donna Morgan, beautiful silver pendants for 1st through 3rd place in the racing and conformation, Gail Wegner wine with special commemorative labels, Gail Wegner and Jennifer Smith embroidered fleece throws and a cash donation from the Samuelsons.
Competitors came from eight states including Wisconsin, Illinois, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Minnesota and Kentucky. We were pleased to have Dana Moran from Texas come to visit and observe. Dana was very helpful and line judged the better part of the weekend.
